| Building Code Advisory Committee
The notice of proposed rulemaking for the 2008 DC Construction Code was published in the DC Register on April 25, 2008.
The proposed rulemaking was transmitted to the Council of the District of Columbia for a 45-day period of review. If the Council does not approve or disapprove the proposed rules, in whole or in part, within the 45-day review period, the proposed rules shall be deemed approved upon expiration of the 45-day period. The proposed rules will not become effective until at least thirty (30) days from the date of publication of this notice in the DC Register, or until approved or deemed approved by the Council, whichever occurs later.
All persons desiring to comment on this proposed rulemaking should submit comments in writing to Paul Waters, Legislative Liaison, Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs, Suite 9400, 941 North Capitol Street, NE, Washington, DC 20002, not later than thirty (30) days after publication of this notice in the DC Register.
Copies of the proposed rules are available for public inspection at the Washingtonia Division of the Martin Luther King Jr. Public Library, 901 G Street, NW, Washington, DC.
The DC Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs (DCRA) was guided in creating the proposed rulemaking by the District of Columbia Building Code Advisory Committee (BCAC), which is made up of a cross section of professionals who perform line-by-line assessments of the building codes, as they relate to the unique characteristics of the District of Columbia.
The committee strives for consensus and allows a wide range of stakeholders to participate in the process. The committee also advises the Mayor and the District of Columbia government on building code matters under the guidelines of Mayor’s Order 89-257.
